About
Each December, Boston Open Studios invites the public into the creative spaces of artists and makers living in the Boston neighbourhood of Bellville, Cape Town.
Boston Open Studios is an annual community-driven event spanning two days, where participating artists and creatives open their doors to share new work, works in progress, and the studios where it all comes to life. Disciplines range from visual art, photography, and ceramics to fashion, writing, winemaking, and more. What connects every participant is a genuine commitment to their craft and a willingness to share it.
Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace — meeting the makers, asking questions, and engaging directly with the work and the stories behind it. For many, it is also an opportunity to purchase original work at studio prices, directly from the artist.
The event was founded in 2021 by local artists Laurette de Jager and Ilse Nieman, who believed Boston's creative community deserved a platform of its own. Now in its sixth year, it continues to grow — shaped by the artists who take part and the neighbourhood that makes it possible.
